Julia Barry is a dance teacher, choreographer, director and examiner, with over 46 years’ experience encompassing running her own dance school and youth company and teaching on full-time vocational and university dance programmes.
A Graduate of The Royal Ballet School Teacher’s Training Course with the School’s Diploma in Ballet Teaching, Julia is also a Life Registered Teacher, Examiner, Tutor and Practical Teaching Supervisor for the Royal Academy of Dance and holds the Academy’s Advanced Teacher’s Diploma.
Julia also has Associate teaching qualifications from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Cecchetti and Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance and National Character Dance. She is also a qualified teacher of Benesh Movement Notation. Julia has completed a Master of Creative Industries (Dance Teaching), with High Distinction, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (Teaching and Learning) and Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork.
Julia currently teaches freelance in Australia, working with students of all ages in full-time vocational, university level and private dance studio contexts. Julia also offers continuing professional development for teachers and tutors and supervises trainee teachers.
In 2021 Julia completed a second Master’s degree, a Master of Philosophy, researching adolescent dancer wellness in elite pre-professional dance schools and private dance studios.
Julia has presented on this topic at three Royal Academy of Dance conferences.
In 2019 Julia established a boutique dance and Pilates studio, Enhance Dance and Pilates, offering online and face-to-face personalised student classical ballet coaching, dancer wellness workshops and adult ballet and Pilates classes. Julia is passionate about enhancing dance students’ learning experiences and supporting dancer health and well-being across all age groups.
