We’ve tried to keep it a secret, but Lonely Planet listed Newcastle as one of its top ten hottest cities globally and now the whole world has embraced her charm.
Nature walks, beaches and bike tracks, arts projects, festivals and cultural events have also rejuvenated Newcastle’s five inner-city precincts, making this vibrant city an eclectic blend of bohemian arts, nature and surf culture.
With a population of approximately 55,000 and growing, Newcastle is the second largest city in New South Wales. Situated approximately two hours north of Sydney, on the New South Wales coast, Newcastle has a warm, temperate climate with warm to hot summers, cool winters and rainfall spread fairly evenly throughout the year.
We have all the benefits of a big city without the stress, offering easy access to shopping, beaches, entertainment and the Hunter Valley. It is far enough from Sydney to have developed its own unique identity and relaxed lifestyle, while being close enough to take advantage of the entertainment and performance opportunities Sydney offers.
Newcastle has the enviable reputation as the birthplace of national and international talent with a considerable number of locally trained dancers, singers, musicians and actors making their mark on the world stage.
One of Australia’s great historic theatres, the Civic hosts a wide range of concerts, musicals, plays, dance and other events all year round. Designed by famed 1920’s theatre architect Henry Eli White a ‘Spanish Baroque’ style, the grand marble foyer and staircase, terrazzo balcony, beautiful interiors and historic main auditorium chandelier, makes for a stunning and unforgettable experience. We are blessed each year to perform our end of year production in this incredible 1500 seat venue.
Local bus and train transport is reliable and widespread throughout Newcastle including a light rail network that runs the length of the Newcastle CBD. Students can catch the bus to local shopping centres, popular beaches and entertainment.
