The National College of Dance Junior Academy continues to grow and under the leadership of Brett Morgan OAM, our team of highly experienced professional dance educators and choreographers continue to foster, train and mentor young dancers.
This commitment to excellence is highlighted by the incredible results we achieve in our Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet exams and eisteddfods through to the growing number of successful graduates who launch professional careers in dance from our Studio.
Classical is the foundation of most styles of dance and provides stability, strength, control and correct body alignment. Our Junior College offers the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examination syllabi. Our students are trained by qualified RAD teachers and lead by our International RAD examiner Elise Frawley.
This class develops students to use the steps they have learnt within their syllabus class and use it into a free flowing movement class. These classes are different each week, so students require to use their knowledge and technique in a different unset combinations. and improves fluidity between steps. A perfect class for younger students to master co-ordination for learning new choreography, entering into competitions or looking to master an audition process.
Jazz is high energy, mixed with fast and dynamic movements, performed to modern and popular music. Our studio continues to excel in this form. For the past two years we have made finals and placed first in NSW’s most competitive dance competition, the Sydney Eisteddfod. We teach Jazz dance technique and movement from Tiny Tots onwards.
Contemporary is a free and intensely creative form of dance based on a wide range of movements. Our Academy has a long history of producing strong and articulate dancers who excel in both Classical and Contemporary. Contemporary is also complimented by the teachings of improvisation and repertoire works which give students a wider dance vocabulary, confidence and imagination. We offer Contemporary dance from Grade 3 (10yrs+) and above.
This program is aimed at introducing boys and young men into the creative and athletic world of dance. Boys only dance classes provide a focused training environment with excellent teachers and role models to inspire boys into the fun of performance and the athleticism and challenge of dance training. Headed by Jake Burden of Ballet Brothers our boys enjoy the fun environment of dance.
Pointe Preparation and Pointe classes are offered from Grade 5 upwards and based on our own NCDJA created syllabus by Elise Frawley and also taking direction from strengthening work from the Perfect Pointe Program by physiotherapist Lisa Howell.
Commencing at Grade 4, each grade has its own 1 hour body conditioning and stretch class. This class is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain an in-depth knowledge of their bodies, how to warm up and cool down after class, work on specific body conditioning and stretch requirements and ask questions about safe dance practices.
Students love our new acrobatics classes. These Acro classes are designed for Pre-Primary – Grade 1 and later moves onto TTJ classes. Acro teaches balance, co-ordination, flexibility and core strength Acro will challenge the students to explore their dance and acrobatic skills, learning safe methods and techniques which provides the foundation of all tricks and jumps used in dance. Acro compliments all forms of dance and plays a dynamic role in Jazz and Contemporary.
Our engaging musical theatre classes introduce students to the foundations of musical theatre (song and movement) and stage performance. They will learn the foundations of good vocal technique, song expression, choreographed dance movements and stage acting, all whilst learning musical theatre songs. Throughout the years, they will explore different characters from a variety of shows and /or musicals, plus also work towards a group stage performance.
