JANNAH ALLEN

Contemporary Teacher / Choreographer

Jannah Allen has undergone extensive training in the art of professional dance, dedicating two years full-time at Newcastle Ballet Theatre followed by another two years full-time at Sydney Dance Company Pre Professional Year, where she completed the Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance. Her journey also includes participation in practices with Catapult Choreographic Hub’s Youth Ensemble and Company.

Her performance repertoire boasts notable experiences such as Stephanie Lakes’ ‘Colossus’ at the New Annual Festival, Carla Zampatti’s Powerhouse Museum work by Omer Backley-Astrachan, the 50th Anniversary Opera House Film with Lucy Guerin, Melanie Lane’s ‘Ivy’ at Carriageworks, and her graduating season at PPY with ‘Synthetic Seduction’ by Jenni Large, ‘Anima’ excerpt by Rafael Bonachela, ‘Pretend that You Live Here’ by Gabriel Nankivell, and ‘Desencuentro’ by LeeAnne Litton and Alejandro Rolandi.

During her ballet training, Jannah showcased her talent by performing lead roles at Newcastle Ballet Theatre, including Clara in ‘The Nutcracker’, Paquita in ‘Paquita’, and Carabosse in ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Additionally, she mesmerized audiences with classical variations and contemporary solos at the Alana Haines Australasian Awards in 2017 and 2019.

In the film industry, Jannah’s involvement spans from creating and performing in dance films for Karen Pearlman’s ‘Breaking Plates’ and ‘Impossible Image’ with the Physical TV Company, to appearing in Jules Mcvey’s music video ‘Fly’ and tafe students’ music video. Her talent was also showcased in the Opera House 50th Anniversary video ‘Play it Safe’ and through her own creations for the Sharp Short Dance Festival.

Jannah’s journey into choreography began in 2016, marked by her choreographing her first solo for a ‘Student choreography’ performance. Since then, she has continued to create numerous solos spanning contemporary, physical theatre, and jazz, both for herself and small groups of peers. Her accomplishments include winning cash prizes through Catapult Choreographic Hub’s Youth Initiative for ‘Best Concept’ in 2022 and ‘Best Performance’ in addition to a secondment at Austi at Sharp Short Dance Festival in 2023. Furthermore, she secured a paid gig for her work ‘Searching Inside’ at The Dungeon Newcastle in 2023.

Jannah joined National College of Dance in 2024.
