Just like the Abba song, Kym Mulcahy was quite literally “a dancer and singer before she could walk.” Born in Perth WA, the daughter of a dance teacher and dance studio owner, her first gig was at the age of 2 was belting out Skippy The Bush Kangaroo to an audience of 200.
Her first professional performance was at 8 years old, winging a solo tap number centre stage at a brand new Perth shopping centre, which ultimately kicked off the first in Perth of many school holiday performances for her family dance studio and also paved the way for other dance studios at that time.
Kym is professionally trained in jazz ballet, tap, RAD classical ballet, drama and musical theatre. At 12 years she began studying singing which would become one of her biggest passions and her professional career.
In 1981, her family bought the Western Australian franchise of The Johnny Young Talent School. Under their passionate direction, JYTS WA grew to become the largest singing and dancing school in Australia, boasting a booked out calendar of live performances, television appearances and major concerts. Interesting to note, Kym trained the very last member ever to join the Johnny Young Talent Team – little Johnny Nuich (1988).
Over 10 years, Kym was not only actively involved in the growth, development and management of the JYTS brand and school, but went on to become their head Singing Teacher, Performance Choreographer, and Studio Manager to more than 500 students and 10 full-time teaching staff.
Many of her past students today have exciting careers in dance, musical theatre, acting and performance both in Australia and overseas.
In the late ’90s, Kym relocated to Sydney to pursue her full-time singing career. For the next two decades, Kym rocked the stage in major Sydney pubs and clubs, performed with big “dance” bands at major venues and corporate functions, and also worked as a solo artist in Japan.
Fast forward to today and Kym’s career has spanned not only the entertainment and arts sector but also morphed into the world of marketing, advertising, business coaching, customer experience and personal development.
She has worked as a marketing coach and business strategist for a wide variety of businesses and startups in various industries helping them to launch their online brands and grow with authentic marketing strategies that nurture their vision, values, and clients.
Most of all, Kym is a creative fun-loving spirit who has an insatiable passion for big and little humans, artistic expression and authentic communication.
